Happiness
Sitting here, I often wonder what makes one happy. Is it simply contentment with the way your life has worked out? Is it an experience or just a state of mind? I believe that happiness coincides with acceptance. You are capable of accepting where your life has taken you. You accept the choices you have made and the regrets that you may have. You accept that there are some situations that are out of your control, but at the end of the day you are the driver of your own life. Not only is acceptance essential in happiness, but so is simplicity. Thinking about extravagant things, material or imaginative, will only cause you to recognize what is missing from your life, rather than the things you are lucky to have. Cherish your family, your friends, and the people that bring out your most desirable self. Be the best person you can be and happiness will find you.
Perspective
Life is all about perspective. It may start out with simple things, like the shirt you find ugly, someone may love. The food you always eat, others may dispise. These are idea we accumulate as we grow older. We become accustomed to understanding everyone has their own taste and view on things. What we often overlook is the perspectives that shape how we see the world. While a teenage girl may run the shower until it is hot enough, a child in Africa may lick the dew off leaves. What the chef at a restaraunt may throw in the dumpster as trash, a homeless person may see as treasure. With life as fast pace as it is, many people overlook these disparities in society. We become consumed in our own lives without considering what others may be going through or struggling with. If a person cuts you off on the road, don’t immediately get upset. Stop and think. Maybe they are late to work, their kid could be in trouble, or they might have a family member who is injured. If someone is rude at the grocery store, maybe they lost their job, or are struggling to pay their bills. Then remember times when you may have acted the same way. Life is a series of events enveloped in a bigger picture. A picture that wouldn’t be created without the different perspectives of every individual in it. All you can do is be the best person you can be and understand that everyone has a story. A story that has shaped their views and the ways they live their life.
